Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors is responsible for stewarding the company and exercising diligence while acting in Petrus’ best interest. The Board is elected by shareholders and is comprised of individuals who through their diverse backgrounds bring valuable experience, knowledge and insight to their roles in guiding the organization.
Don T. Gray, Chairman
Mr. Gray is the Chairman of Petrus Resources Ltd. and is a Co-Founder and former President and Chief Executive Officer of Peyto Energy Trust. Mr. Gray is also Chairman of Gear Energy Ltd., a heavy oil producer, and Chairman of EIQ Capital Corp., a private investment company. Mr. Gray holds a BSc in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University and has over 20 years experience in the Canadian oil and gas business in various capacities. Mr. Gray co-founded Peyto in 1998 and efficiently grew production from zero to greater than 24,000 boe/day. Mr. Gray was selected by Ernst & Young as the Canadian Energy Trust Entrepreneur of the Year in 2004. He continues to serve as Chairman of Peyto and remains one of Peyto's largest individual shareholders.
Ken Gray, President & CEO
Mr. Gray is a petroleum engineer and holds a degree from Texas A&M University. His career in the energy sector has spanned 35 years and includes extensive experience in Canada, the North Sea and Alaska. He spent a significant portion of his career with large multinational energy companies like Sohio Production Company and BP Exploration. In more recent years, Mr. Gray has been putting his industry expertise to work running multiple private Canadian energy companies. He joined Petrus as President & CEO in April of 2021.
Patrick Arnell, Director
Mr. Arnell is a Director of Petrus Resources Ltd. Since 2005, he has been an early stage investor in several successful oil and gas enterprises as well as a founding shareholder and Chairman of Rangeland Industrial Service Ltd., a rapidly growing manufacturer of specialty pipe handling equipment for the energy industry. Mr. Arnell was previously President and majority owner of Rayton Packaging Inc. from 1992 to 2005, overseeing its expansion from Alberta to extensive operations in Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Chile. He has an MBA from the University of Saskatchewan.
Donald Cormack, Director
Donald Cormack is a Director of Petrus Resources Ltd. Mr. Cormack is a retired Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers who has specialized in the oil and gas industry for over 35 years. He has extensive financial accounting and reporting experience with both private and public companies of all sizes covering regulatory compliance, risk management, acquisitions, corporate restructuring, internal controls and governance in Canada and the U.S. Mr. Cormack is a director of the Calgary Police Foundation and past director of The Calgary Foundation and Alberta Health Services. He is a Chartered Accountant, a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors Program and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
Peter Verburg, Director
Peter Verburg is a Director of Petrus Resources Ltd. Mr. Verburg served on the board from 2010 to 2017, returning in 2021. He is a Calgary businessman with extensive experience in the Canadian energy sector. Mr. Verburg earned an MBA from the Haskayne School of Business and has a diverse business background, with experience as a financial journalist, investment banker and entrepreneur. Most recently, Mr. Verburg is the founder and CEO of a Calgary-based digital health company.
